A majority of attorneys who have recently attained partner level are satisfied in their new roles. But even some of the most contented new partners say there’s plenty of room for improvement in their own careers, at their law firms and throughout the profession. Those are among the most significant conclusions of ALM
Legal Intelligence’s 2012 New Partner Survey, which anonymously captured the opinions and experiences of 440 recently promoted attorneys at Am Law 200 firms.
This report, conducted by ALM Legal Intelligence, provides an overview of new partners’ experience in large law firms. The data were collected via email invitations to a Web-based survey conducted between August 7, 2012,
and September 17, 2012. Invitations were sent to partners promoted since 2009 at Am Law 200 law firms. Quantitative results from 440 respondents were supplemented by interviews with a cross–section of the group. About half the respondents made partner for the 2012 year; the remainder moved into the partner ranks between 2009 to 2011. Nearly two-thirds of respondents are non-equity/income partners; the rest are equity partners.
In some cases, responses are compared to last year’s edition of the survey, fielded in September 2011.
