Competitive Intelligence is advantage in any industry, and is growing in importance to the legal landscape. In this special report, we ask large U.S. law firms about how they use CI for business development purposes, and how they’re dedicating budget and staffing to CI going forward.
The results of this survey provide an insight into competitive intelligence efforts at large U.S. law firms. Surveys were collected via email invitations to a Web-based survey conducted between December 12, 2012, and January 20, 2013. Invitations were sent to firm administrators and marketing contacts (including executive directors, CMOs, and directors of business development). In addition, quantitative results were supplemented by interviews with a cross–section of the group. A total of 82 completed surveys were received. Seven percent of respondents work for firms with fewer than 100 attorneys; 62 percent work at law firms with between 100 and 499 attorneys; and 31 percent areemployed by law firms with 500 or more attorneys.
